Mauvaises nouvelles pour les orques :
Hier, à 16h57, Bingo, un orque mâle capturé en Islande en 1984 (à environ 2 ans d’âge) qui était jusque-là captif à l’Aquarium Port Nagoya au Japon, est décédé. Des sources indiquent que l’orque était en très mauvaise santé depuis mai 2014. Puisses-tu être enfin libre Bingo…

De plus, la femelle Kiska est également en très mauvaise santé. On dit que l’orque n’est plus que le souvenir de ce qu’est vraiment une orque. Kiska a étécapturée en Islande en 1977 à environ 3 ans d’âge. Elle a passé 35 ans en captivité au Marineland du Canada et n’a pas vu d’autre orque depuis que Ikaika ait été transférée à SeaWorld en novembre 2011.
Kiska montre « un comportement répétitif de flottaison sans grande variété de mouvements ».
Des photos de son aileron dorsal prises par le comité d’observation des animaux captifs de la région ont été montrées au Docteur Naomi Rose qui dit : « Kiska a l’air d’avoir perdu du poids sur ces photos. Son aileron semble se détériorer. Comme une infection qui entraine la perte de tissue et de consistance (je ne suis pas vétérinaire mais cela ressemble bien à de la gangrène). Elle n’est PAS en bonne condition physique. »
L’ancien dresseur, Jeffrey Ventre explique l’état de l’évent de Kiska :
« Quand les orques perdent du poids et s’approchent de leur fin de vie, elles attrapent ce qu’on appelle « une tête en cacahuète » à cause du creux qui se forme derrière leur évent.»

On termine avec 3 plutôt bonnes nouvelles :
· L’aquarium de Vancouver a reçu l’ordre d’arrêter la reproduction parmi ses cétacés suite à un vote unanime du 31 juillet dernier !
· Un delphinarium illégal dans les îles des Bahamas s’est vu fermer ses portes avec l’ordre de libérer et réhabiliter les 8 dauphins captifs qu’il possédait. Merci aux avocats des cétacés ainsi qu’à la pétition de 65 000 signatures pour être arrivé à cette décision en mi-juillet dernier.

· Suite à la diffusion de Blackfish sur Arte le 29 juin dernier (disponible en replay ou en DVD élu « meilleure vente »), le Marineland d’Antibes a connu de meilleurs jours. Beaucoup réagissent et se rendent compte que la France aussi est concernée. Une stagiaire au parc d’Antibes laisse un témoignage qui fait de l’ombre au parc. 2 jours après, Marineland se défend…
Rappelons-nous ce que disait Marion Cotillard après le tournage du film De Rouille Et d’Os filmé en partie au parc Marineland : « Garder des autobus dans une baignoire »…

Bad news for two killer whales:
Yesterday, at 4:57, Bingo, a male killer whale captured in Iceland in 1984 (at the estimated age of 2) who was being held captive at the Port of Nagoya Aquarium in Japan, passed away. Articlessaid the killer whale was sick since May 2014. May you finally be free Bingo… RIP Bingo.

The female killer whale, Kiska, is also in critical health. It is said the whale is “turning into the shell of what a killer whale should be.” Kiska was captured in Iceland in 1977 at the estimated age of three. She has spent the last 35 years in captivity at Marineland, Canada and hasn’t seen another killer whale since Ikaika was sent back to SeaWorld in November 2011.
Kiska “is exhibiting repetitive swim patterns, bobbing and floating.”
Pictures of her dorsal fin were taken by the Ontario Captive Animal Watch and sent to Dr. Naomi Rose and she said: “Kiska looks underweight in these photos. Her fin seems to have some kind of progressive condition – an infection that is causing the tissue to lose its integrity (I am not a veterinarian, but it looks gangrene-like to me). She is NOT in good condition.”
Former SeaWorld trainer, Dr. Jeffrey Ventre explained the condition of Kiska’s blowhole: « When orcas lose weight, and are approaching death, they get what’s called a « peanut head, » due to the depression behind the blowhole. »

· Vancouver Aquarium banned from breeding whales and dolphins ! A unanimous vote on July 31st allowed the Vancouver Aquarium to keep its captive whales and dolphins but forbade it to breed them.

· Major victory: illegal dolphinarium ordered to shut down and free the captive dolphins. Thanks to the push back from animal advocates and a petition that gained 65,000 signatures, a dolphinarium holding eight captive dolphins in the Bahamas has been ordered to shut down and release its animal by a court mid july.

· And following the broadcast of Blackfish on the French tv station on June 29th (movie available via replay or on DVD “best seller”), Marineland, Antibes, has known better days. Many react and realize this issue also concerns France. An intern leaves a testimony which could damage the reputation of the marine park.
“When I saw these majestic creatures in their narrow tank, swimming in circles like fish in their fish bowl, between two shows, I realized to which extent they must be unhappy. They are dying of boredom.” 2 days later, the park lashes back in the same way Sea World did last year after.
Keep Whales Wild, Cétacés Libres 
I can’t read the testimony from the Marineland intern… The link lead me to Marineland answer which is unbelievable. They dare pretend it’s better to keep animals captive cause they were born their and should never be sent to wild without ever have lived in wild. Why can’t they understand by stopping the reproduction in captivity, the problem is solved??? plus, all their arguments are incredibly stupid and false. If animals have psychologist taking care of them in captivity and not in wild, how can they say it’s awesome?! why would they need psychologist if they are so happy in captivity?! that’s really taking people for idiots; so disrespectful to think they are “good people” while they make hundreds of animals suffer
We should reply to there defence and prove how wrong they are. I strongly hope people will keep demonstrating in Antibes and that the parc will close.
